Hello all!
It seems CRAZY that tomorrow is our last day in Mexico!!!
The students have gotten into the groove and everything is going really well. I know they are super excited to share everything with you when they get home. Our translators are exhausted mentally, but hanging in there!
The building team is on schedule, but planning on working long into the night to stay that way and finish at a reasonable time tomorrow. The fact that the electricity will be in this evening is both good and bad. Great because the team can work longer….bad because the team, who really needs to sleep….can work longer! They are at a point today where there is a lot of work that the kids can help with!
This evening we are all meeting for dinner at Danny´s (an annual event) and then heading to services. Everyone has a choice between a service at Purple Mongoose´s site or going to the candlelight service at camp. We have 25 going to the church service (a 3 hour one, by the way) about 10 staying at the buildsite, and 10 going to the candlelight service.
Almost all students got a shower yesterday, so they no longer stink….you should smell those boy´s tents, though!!! YUCK! TO the parents who will be washing their clothes when they get home…I am sooooo sorry. They stink!
I know this update is a bit more random…but we have hit the middle of the week. All is going well, everyone is happy, and I think all are going to be shocked when it sinks in that tomorrow is the last day!
Looking forward to seeing all of you again, but NOT to the cold weather that you all keep telling us about!
In His Grip,
Amy and the Mexicali 2008 Team
March 26th, 2008 at 3:17 pm Hello again! It sounds like everything is going great down there. Thanks for all of the updates! Scott, we will see you in a couple of days - we can’t wait! Love you tons, Hollie and Grace.
March 26th, 2008 at 4:20 pm To Eric & Carissa & all who are near , , , Last Day wisdom - remember the “NO REGRETS” policy. Do not leave Mexico with any regrets; a regret that you did not say what needed to be said, did not hug that last child, did not take the time to take one last picture or smile one more time, did not say, “I love you” or “Jesus Loves You!” or sing (Carissa!) one more song , , , be bold & couragous on your last day; come home with NO REGRETS
March 26th, 2008 at 5:20 pm Blessings on your various worship experiences tonight. I look forward to hearing about them from you. Chris~ Today spring found its way to MI. It was a steamy 45 and sunny! We went to the zoo with Rachael and Lucy, Leideckers and friends of Karla’s. Julia was a very good girl and walked much of the day, no tears or melt-downs. She is currently still napping. We stopped by church today to start your car which it did do. (Praise God!!) Now we are working on baby-proofing the house for Leah’s visit, she started crawling and Phil tells me she’s into EVERYTHING! We miss you and can’t wait to see you on Saturday and to possibly talk to you tomorrow when you are back in SoCAL. Love you!Lisa
March 26th, 2008 at 9:32 pm Jamie, one more day of building! I have so much to tell you, I can’t wait to talk to you. Here’s what I have in a nutshell: My dad’s car was flashed, my dad’s pants were robbed, I resigned from work, and an old friend was at small group. It’s been quite eventful. I know you’ll have your share of stories, too, and I can’t wait to hear them all! Give everyone my love and I’ll talk to you SOON! Love you baby cakes, ~Wife~
March 26th, 2008 at 9:50 pm Eric, I can’t beleive that tomarrow is your last day in Mexico. We have all been sick here and I am trying to kill all of our cooties before you come home. Keith has been quarentined for so long that he really misses you. We all miss you. I think its time for you to start praying for a germ free house by Saturday. Keep up the good work, love mom
March 26th, 2008 at 9:56 pm We are so proud of all the work you are doing. The family is blessed to have a home built with God’s love. We’ve enjoyed following the activites of VBS and the house progress. Safe travels as you all return home. We look forward to hearing first hand your stories, Michael. We love you!
March 26th, 2008 at 9:57 pm Glad everything is going well for all involved. Hopefully Claire has missed us as much as we miss her. Dad is in Delaware, flying in on Friday as well. Received your report card, excellent as always. Its nice to see all your hard work paid off. We are so proud of the entire Mexicalli team. With much love and admiration the Haglund Family.
March 26th, 2008 at 9:58 pm Wow, Carissa & Eric! It’s hard to believe you and the rest of your team will be spending your last day in Mexico already! We know each of you have touched so many lives this week with your self-less words and actions. We also know that each of you will continue to lead and inspire when you return! We’ll continue to pray for all of you as you begin your journey home. Colleen & Joel
March 26th, 2008 at 9:59 pm Hi Joe, Sound like your having a great time and doing good things. I’ll be anxious to hear all the details. Love and God bless you and your team. G Women
March 26th, 2008 at 10:13 pm Hi everyone! We hope your last day in Mexico is a great one! Sorry about the typos in G Women’s message. I was typing it for her while talking on the phone. Hey Joe and all PHN students, report cards were sent home yesterday. I picked yours up at school today Joe, no surprises! Amy, thanks for the warning about the stinky clothes. Ray will put the rooftop carrier on our Durango, so the luggage can be put up there and not inside with us! Michelle and Melanie, we still plan on giving you a ride home from the airport. The weather was better today. Sunny and it got up to 46 degrees. Our yard is still full of snow though. Joe, Dad says he can’t wait until you get home safely and I can’t either. We love you, and we’ll see you Saturday.
March 26th, 2008 at 11:09 pm Hi Brother Bear (aka Jamie Claussen), Just wanted you to know that we are so proud of you and your are in our thoughts and prayers. Wish we could all be together. Keep up the great work and return home safe and smelling good
March 26th, 2008 at 11:13 pm Hi Brother Bear (aka Jamie Claussen), Just wanted you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. We are very proud of you!! Stay safe and return home smelling good
March 27th, 2008 at 9:51 am Just hearing about the YUCKY smelling tents of the boys, makes me so happy to have a girl…lol. Christina would loose a bet if it meant she had to stay stinky…haha. Anyway, I’m so excited that we’re getting closer to seeing Christina’s beautiful face. She lights up our home, and we miss her terribly. Please give her lots of love and hugs from all of us here at home. We’re praying that all goes well your last day in Mexico and that you accomplish all you set out to do, but more importantly all that God has planed for you to do. We pray for lots of rest for everyone, and a safe easy border crossing, with lots more rest on the other side. Tell Christina to give Jamie, Mike, Eric, Carissa, Ian, Amanda, and even Jake a hug from the Kade family. We miss all of you, and can’t wait to see you on Saturday! See you soon! PS ~ Christina, call me when you can…it’s always nice to hear your voice.
March 27th, 2008 at 9:58 am Hey I’m glad to hear ALMOST everyone got showers!! I am glad you all are safe. It is getting a lot warmer here actually. We miss you guys. We pray you guys stay safe on the flight!!! Bye!!
March 27th, 2008 at 9:59 am I forgot to mention that the high will be 43 on Saturday…not bitter cold, but still not the beautiful spring weather we’ve been praying for, nor that you guys have been enjoying. HEY…I have an idea…if it fits into your luggage, maybe you can bring us home some of that beautiful California weather…lol…I’d be ever so grateful, as would the rest of Michigan.
March 27th, 2008 at 3:26 pm Cara we still miss you!!!!! and its still cold and it snowed today. don’t forget to bring home the “scrapbook items” like plane ticket, paperwork, flat things. we are making green jello for your return. and we will put pineapple in it. obviously, Laura is typing this, because if Mum was typing it, standard english grammar rules would be applied. including capitals where necessary. but she doesn’t understand modern abbreviations. =)
